As Chief Communications Officer of The Social MVP, Kelley Suggs brings more than 15 years of experience in the world of communications, marketing, PR, and journalism. Kelley learned the ins and outs of broadcast news at Fox 2 Detroit and ABC 53 in Lansing, MI. She has freelanced for magazines—with some internationally circulated— and hosted an international gospel video program where she interviewed several award-winning musicians and performers.
Her educational portfolio includes a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Dance from Michigan State University, Master of Arts in Public Relations and Organizational Communication and a Graduate Certification in New Media Technology, both from Wayne State University.
With experience in ghostwriting, copy editing, mass media relations, media buying, strategic communication, social strategy, consulting, brand management, and as a publicist, Kelley is well-versed in many industry-related components. Kelley has covered stories on Super Bowl XL and even the Detroit Mayoral Campaign between Kwame Kilpatrick and Freman Hendrix. As a social influencer in Detroit, she has served as moderator of panels focusing on the Flint Water Crisis, Charter School Takeover, and helping millennials develop career strategies to acquire success in today’s marketplace. A known philanthropist, Kelley makes strides as a supporter of her husband’s Detroit non-profit, to push the vision of educating youth and young adults on the importance of philanthropy. She also devotes time as a career mentor to teens and has lectured in schools on the vast possibilities of careers in the communications field.
She has an Elementary Certification in Labanotation from the Dance Notation Bureau in New York and is an active member of her church’s dance ensemble, where she also produces, reports and anchors for the internal weekly broadcast news magazine. Trained in ballet, jazz, and modern dance, Kelley has danced background with gospel artists, traveled with a children’s theater group and a local dance company. Her first-star acting role was in 2010, which has led to several other stage and film portrayals. She has instructed dance, hosted biblically based fashion shows and Communication Etiquette workshops for teens.
Kelley has served on the executive board of The National Black Public Relations Society-Detroit Chapter for more than five years where she has organized programs and conferences, led sponsorship efforts, and leveraged media to advance initiatives pertinent to those working in communications related fields and those aspiring to do so.
Married since 2011, she and her husband have a son and reside just outside the Motor City (Detroit).
